This article is about how to get a tougher mind. What I found interesting is the way the writer investigates to get answers to this complex question. She analyses the question from a very scientific perspective and gives an insightful view on how people can manage their stress or trauma.
The example she took is the 11th September 2001 tragedy, the collapse of the twin tower in America and how resilience can help the children who was affected, deal with their day to day stress and trauma. It must be hard for a child to live a normal life after going through such a harsh day.
From my experience, these tough moments’ forces you to grow and face reality but also they make you realise how life can be so fragile and you need to appreciate very moment that is being given to you.
Have you ever ask yourself this question, what is worst, being hurt physically or emotionally? From my own experience, being hurt physically is bearable as you know that the wound will heal, it may leave scars but you will get better.
Being hurt psychologically is more complicated than it seems. Emotional pain is difficult to deal with, as you can only feel the pain and it can be continuous that no medicine in the world will be able to relieve. Only you can have the will to let go of the pain even if it is very difficult. When you go through a hard experience, you lose track of everything and at that moment you don’t live but you survive just to keep your head above water and try to make it to the next day.
In her article Emma Young highlights ten factors which help when dealing with traumas and stress. Three factors which I believe are important when going through tough experiences. These can be hard to apply in your lives but certainly help you to move on. “Facing fear, drawing on faith, having meaning purpose and growth in life”. I think that these factors can help you deal with your day to day demons. You need to live and express the grief you feel as there are so many feelings mixed-up inside you and it is difficult to deal with them. Only God has the power to heal your wounds but you also need to have this will to let go of this burden which is unbearable to you and have faith that you will get better.
